The kiln at North Prairie tile is working over time helping the artists get ready for the upcoming sale. The large kiln uses gas to heat the pottery to a temperature of over 2380′ in an atmosphere with an extremely low oxygen level. This helps get the great color the artists crave in their glazes. It also causes the stoneware and porcelain clays to vitrify or reach a state where they no longer absorb water when cool. It’s always exciting to see what comes out, because you never quite know how things are going to turn out. Mark your calendars for the upcoming sale on December 5,6 and 13th. Times are below. Hope to see you there!
